How to Sanitize Your Beauty Products

In this day and age, hand washing is top of mind. The idea of sanitizing beauty products, however, often gets overlooked. If you use beauty products on a daily basis, it’s essential that you keep them contaminant-free by disinfecting them after every possible exposure. After all, the Center for Disease Control and Protections says the key to protecting yourself is disinfecting high-touch surfaces like your hands because viruses can live and transfer from your hands to the products you use.

So, it only makes sense to sanitize makeup and skincare product containers you will be coming into contact with during the pandemic and beyond. Here are some tips to help you do just that.

Focus on the Outside of the Products

It’s all too easy for the outside of your beauty products to carry germs and viruses. Therefore, it’s important to thoroughly clean their bottles and cases. This holds true for any products you personally use as well as ones you share with the other people you live with.

Wash Makeup Brushes and Sponges

If you use makeup brushes and sponges, don’t forget to wash them regularly. All you have to do is squeeze a bit of gentle shampoo or soap into a glass or mug and fill it with warm water. Then, swirl your brushes in the water and massage the bristles gently to remove any contaminants. Lastly, rinse the brushes with clean water, squeeze the water out, and lay them flat to dry.

Wipe Down Products You Use Outside Your Home

Most of us are spending our days at home. However, if you do leave your home for any reason and you use your products outside the home, it’s time for some makeup sanitizer. A sanitizing wipe will do the trick. Wipe the outside of the products off as soon as you get home.

Discard Products If Necessary

In the event you or someone in your home does get sick, it’s a good idea to get rid of any products they’ve used. While it may be pricey to replace them, your health and safety should be your top priority.
